Recruiting leaders

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

What changes have been made in the way your community recruits and trains new leaders?
I think we used to try to recruit in a larger non personal way, now we are trying to look at our community and ask ourselves who could we invite to help us.

Change Presho

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

The canisters for the project have been ordered and should be here soon. I have talked with Pastor Lori and I will meet with the Youth Group on Feb. 26.
We should have a canister at the Farm and Home show and a very good explanation what Change Presho is. Since the Thrift Store is what the community was interested in having the money used for that is also a issue we need to be well versed in. I am currently working on lots of info for the Thrift Store and will make another post on that before the Farm and Home Show.
We need to decide which business’s the canisters will go in and who will be in charge of getting the money collected and where that money will be kept. Lots of questions, we need to have a meeting as soon as possible.

Farm and Home Show

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

We need more volunteers to man the booth at the Farm and Home Show!! We still have about 3 hours open and that is having only one person there at a time. Even if you can only stay for 1/2 an hour please let the public know that you support Horizons and what we are trying to do for the community.
Please let me know ASAP if you can be there on Feb 23.
There will be wireless internet access, so we can show the blog, if you have any ideas what you think we should showccase at our booth please comment. Thank you

Horizon Meetings

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

We need to decide on a set date to hold a monthly meeting, talking with a few people the 1st Tuesday of the month has been discussed. Comments are welcome on this! There will never be a perfect date for everyone, so if we can plan for it maybe more people can come.
We really need to get more people involved, there is a lot of work to be done and only a few of us to do it. So please recruit some newcomers, Presho needs some new faces involved in community issues. I know everyone’s time is limited but if we don’t JUST DO IT nothing will ever get done.

Economic Development/Entrepreneurial Support Seminar

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

I wanted to report on the seminar Michelle and I attended in Wall on Feb. 12. There was 4 people from Murdo, 2 from Wall, the Mayor and his wife, and another man I can’t remember where he was from. There was 2 speakers, Marty from SDSU, an economist, he had some interesting numbers on what our counties have been doing and the future if things keep going as they are. Jim, from the Business Development Center in Rapid City gave a great presentation about all of the support available to communities in SD. Rural Deveopment was represented and discussed the support they provide to areas with low income. I think it was worth the trip, Michelle and I will talk more about what we learned at our next meeting.
