Thrift Store Open House

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

The Thrift Store open house was a great success. We served over 100 people for the BBQ lunch and had brisk business inside the store. Mandy Cole won the quilt. The raffle and free will offering raised $510.00 and Modern Woodman will match up to $500.00. We plan on building a new step with hand rails with the money.

Final Blog Report Card (Shoot for the Stars-Laptop Comp)

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Presho: Would like to see more active users, at this time there are 1 or 2 active bloggers, and a few others who have blogged once or twice.  Technically you are meeting the requirement of having 5 bloggers for this incentive level, but only 2 of the 5 are “making contributions to the blog” consistently.  Secondly, we would like to see posts specific to progress on your goals in the strategic plan.  Overall, your community is still working at the Shoot for the Stars incentive….just barely.  Your “to do list” through the end of Horizons:

1. Get 1 or 2 more people to blog consistently through the end of the project.

2.  Add posts about the progress on strategic plans (records of committee work, meeting minutes, photos of projects in action/completed, how things have changed, etc.

3.  If you haven’t already, include answers to the monthly questions.  We would like to read more than one person’s perspective.

4.  Also, we would like to stress quality versus quantity through the end of the project.  We would really like to see posts on how your Strategic Plans are being implemented.

Thank You

Have you learned anything about how nearby communities like yours are taking action to reduce poverty?  Do you see any opportunities to exchange information or combine efforts in this work?

February Questions

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

What kinds of concrete steps are being taken by your community to address poverty?
The Horizons group has made the decision to go ahead with the Thrift Store idea. A building has been secured and volunteers are being found. Change Presho containers are being placed in business’s to collect money for startup costs. A name contest is being held to get community interest. A board is being assembled to oversee the Change Presho projects, this includes the Thrift Store. A business plan is being prepared for the Thrift Store. There are many concrete steps being taken to get closer to our goal of opeing a Thift Store in Presho.

Change Presho

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

The canisters for the project have been ordered and should be here soon. I have talked with Pastor Lori and I will meet with the Youth Group on Feb. 26.
We should have a canister at the Farm and Home show and a very good explanation what Change Presho is. Since the Thrift Store is what the community was interested in having the money used for that is also a issue we need to be well versed in. I am currently working on lots of info for the Thrift Store and will make another post on that before the Farm and Home Show.
We need to decide which business’s the canisters will go in and who will be in charge of getting the money collected and where that money will be kept. Lots of questions, we need to have a meeting as soon as possible.

Farm and Home Show

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

We need more volunteers to man the booth at the Farm and Home Show!! We still have about 3 hours open and that is having only one person there at a time. Even if you can only stay for 1/2 an hour please let the public know that you support Horizons and what we are trying to do for the community.
Please let me know ASAP if you can be there on Feb 23.
There will be wireless internet access, so we can show the blog, if you have any ideas what you think we should showccase at our booth please comment. Thank you
