Presho Strategic Plan
This is how the committee would like to see Presho in the future.
Presho will be a community of at least 1,000 where the residents want to stay and visitors want to come back. Citizens will enjoy a good standard of living with quality housing, living wage jobs, affordable health care, and family-nurturing activities. We will demonstrate community pride by having attractive, well maintained homes along hard-surfaced streets flanked by modern, well-lit sidewalks. Our community is committed to providing our students with an excellent high-tech education that prepares them for the future. There will be activities for all, especially the youth and seniors. We will support existing businesses and encourage entrepreneurship. Our town will thrive for many years to come.To obtain this vision, the committee wrote the following goals for Presho.
Goal 1. Maintain the appearance of an attractive small town
- Conduct volunteer spring and fall city wide clean up of exterior properties.
- Create a bike path from Presho to Kennebec along the Medicine Creek
- Investigate the vacant houses that are being used for storage, identify the owners and determine if they would be willing to sell them or give them to a nonprofit housing corporation as a tax deduction
Goal 2. Support existing businesses and encourage entrepreneurship.
- Implement a “Buy Local” campaign
- Implement a “Change Presho” campaign
- Create a venture capital fund for Presho
- Institute business management classes for new businesses and current business owners
- Identify start-up businesses needed and advertise business opportunities
Goal 3. Lyman County residents have access to information, businesses and services that are available locally
- Build a comprehensive list of services, businesses and attractions available in Lyman County
- Lyman County communities support and utilize Rural Office of Community Services (ROCS) senior meals and transportation program.
Goal 4. Encourage the development of affordable, equality housing.
- The Lyman School develops a vocational program that builds at least one home a year and sells the home to the public
- Encourage the remodeling of Presho Courts to include two bedroom unites and possibly a group home.
- Develop a local source for home financing information
According to the committee, in order to reach these goals and succeed, community involvement is needed. If you share this vision and want to help Presho reach these goals contact a Horizon project member or log on to Presho’s blog site at http://Presho.communityblogs.us/
